Holly Goodwin
HOLLY HENDRIX GOODWIN, born into a creative family in St. Louis in 1979- had no choice but to be an artist! Her mother, a fashion designer and merchandiser by trade, also had her own cooking show, was a musician and gave her talent to her daughter. Her brother, an artist since birth, is now a professional illustrator and professor at Washington University in St. Louis at the Sam Fox School of Art & Design and runs the MFA program. Her Dad was a Submarine Captain and Vice President in the Trust department of a bank for 30 years. Okay- so not everyone was creative....
Inspired by her high school art teacher, Holly was driven to master all forms of art media from drawing and painting, to ceramics and photography. She is a musician and can play over a dozen different instruments, performed on stage in several theater productions, hosted a KPAT radio show at Parkway South High School and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. This 'Wonder Woman' decided to take all of her combined fine arts skills to The University of Kansas where she graduated in 2002 with a Bachelors in Art Education. Rock-Chalk-Jayhawk-K-U !
Holly married an old friend from college she had known and stayed in contact with for 8 years in 2004. Her husband, Tim Goodwin, was in the Navy and was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii when they were married, where Holly lived and worked as a floral designer and a videographer in a dolphin tank at Sea Life Park. Next, the dynamic-duo moved to the nation's capital for Tim's new assignment. He worked at the Pentagon for a Two-Star Admiral who was the Chief of Navy Chaplains. Then, after 8 years of service, the Navy-man hung up his uniform and moved back to Springfield, Missouri to live as a civilian where he and Holly had first met. Tim is now working as a professional Electrician at Cox Health Hospital. Tim also has a freelance business called "Lightningwerks Electrical" after completing his business degree at Evangel University in 2011. Holly is now teaching High School art at Republic High School and is the Fine Arts Department Head and an is also an Adjunct Professor through Drury University while teaching Dual-Credit Art Portfolio for 5 years.
Holly has 17 years of teaching experience under her belt instructing all age levels from K-12 and knows she is where God wants her as a high school teacher. Holly has her Masters of Art Studio & Theory at Drury University and is now pursuing a second Masters Degree in Art Education. Holly's personal artwork focuses on the molecular structure of her own skeletal muscles because she was diagnosed in October of 2012 with a rare genetic muscle condition called, McArdles disease. Her artwork is now a vehicle for her to explore her own DNA, do research and also educate others about rare illnesses like McArdles. Her molecular drawings, paintings and multimedia pieces and sculptures are all based on skeletal muscles and truly unique. An artist's journey is not a destination, but the experiences collected along the road.
